SIGN #1: You Love To KISS.
KISS, a principle created by the U.S. Navy in 1960, which is an acronym for "Keep It Simple, Stupid.”
This is a gentle reminder to you to not complicate matters and instead find simple ways to do the things.
Nowadays, you can find lots of tips for productivity and time management. They mostly encourage you to be more productive and accomplish more (and more and more) tasks.
But. Wait a minute.
Let’s look at this from another angle - doing lots of hard work doesn’t necessarily guarantee good results.
In fact, have a look at this story -
Amazon warehouse workers are discouraged from sitting down during their 10-hour shift. They are required to pick an item for packing every 30 seconds and have their “units per hour” constantly displayed on a screen in front of them.
The warehouse workers are unable to handle the strain of the punishing quotas and are taken away by ambulances regularly.
As you’ve probably noticed, these are quite deplorable conditions.
Yet these people receive average wages.
On the contrary, Jeff Bezos (the founder of Amazon) recently became the world’s richest person with a net worth of $105.1 billion!
Does this mean that Jeff Bezos works harder than the employees of Amazon Warehouse?
So what’s the difference?!
Rich people don’t work MORE, but
work on MORE IMPORTANT tasks.
This means that instead of doing more number of tasks, you need to focus on fewer tasks, ones that are of higher quality and cancel or delegate the remaining tasks.
This will help in making your life simpler and more productive!
For instance, if you’re in sales then your major task is to spend time communicating with prospects.
90% of your working time should be dedicated to this one major task while all the other secondary tasks should be postponed or delegated to others.
Here is a bit funny example of KISS from my own life. Recently I had visited Vietnam and saw an example of the principle of KISS.
In the above image, you can see on the left side, a couple that sells fruits.
At first, I didn’t notice that they used very primitive equipment to arrange their business activity.
But on a closer look, I realized that they used a baby carriage with a plastic box on top. They put the cut-fruits that they were selling, on top of this box.
They didn’t complain that they didn’t have their own shop or that they didn’t have enough equipment.
They also didn’t postpone the idea “till they had more capital.”
They simply found a way to execute their idea and start earning money!
Meanwhile, the couple on the right is also doing something similar -
The equipment they are using to barbeque the meat is put on a basic plastic stool. Even with the most primitive equipment available, they managed to generate sales!
Also, there’s a flip side to focusing on fewer but more important things.
It states, “Do not be major in minor,” which means that you should NOT excel in secondary tasks.
For me, this is hard. I’m a perfectionist. I try to polish everything before I present it to other people.
If you are like me, you should remind yourself to question the importance of a task in hand, all the time.
Here’s another photo from Vietnam.
You may notice that even though it’s called ‘Saigon Central Makert’, this market still works wonders and is full of customers.
The easiest way to strike out tasks from your To Do List is to cancel it.
Yes. It is really as simple as that.
To conclude, if you follow the principle KISS, you will definitely have a great chance to be highly successful!
SIGN #2: You Have A Good Attitude To People.
Numerous researchers have confirmed that networking is critical to your professional success.
A study of lawyers at a large North American law firm, found that their success depended on their ability to network effectively both internally (to get themselves assigned to choice clients) as well as externally (to bring business into the firm).
The next question is -
How do we develop strong networking skills?
The key is to have a good attitude towards people.
Originally, people are self-centered and only think about their own interests. And, you are literally judged by how much benefit you bring to them.
- If you dislike others, they will dislike you in return.
- If you like others, they will like you.
Although this sounds overly simplistic, it is still true!
Therefore, in order to have good relationships with people and get their support, you must have a good attitude towards them!
Here is another story from my experience -
Recently, I had visited a fabric shop.
As soon as I entered the shop, a girl walks up to me and offers a cup of tea for free.
This is, in fact, a marketing strategy - these marketers know that if they give something to me - I am much more likely to give something back to them, later on.
Yes. This is absolutely true. It’s a proven fact!
This is one of the moral standards that humans have set after 1000s of years of evolution.
Historically, even though there were no paper contracts, people still had strong feelings of fair-mindedness. In fact, they were always inclined to give back to those who had also given them something.
This was the Core Principle Of Cooperation.
We continue to have this moral value buried deep within us.
Just to sum it all up - if you wish to have lots of people supporting you, you must have a good attitude towards them as well.
If you already do this, then you are definitely on your way to success!
SIGN #3: You Admire Rich People And Wish To Become One Too.
The topic of our attitude towards money is quite tricky.
On the one hand, we all want to lead a wealthy life. On the other hand, it is also true that modern society has become overly obsessed with money.
Haven’t you heard this phrase -
“He’s worth X amount of money.”
Don’t you think it is incorrect to parallel a human to a mere ATM machine?
After all, a person’s value is NOT evaluated by money alone!
- You’re a valuable member of your family.
- A Valuable Friend.
- A Valuable Member Of Society.
- A Valuable Human Being.
- And the list goes on…
All of the above has nothing to do with how much money you have.
Therefore, money shouldn’t be a goal by itself. Rather, money should be a reward that you get after achieving your self-fulfilled goal.
When you do something in life and utilize your talents, you will certainly make progress in your career. It is fine to track that progress with your financial gain and how much money you make.
There’s also another thing to think about here -
Often, media portrays rich people in a negative light. Hence, it’s easy to become skeptical about them.
For example, here’s a comment one person posted about how to get rich.
It is natural to adopt this kind of skepticism and it is also true to some extent.
However, if you hate rich people, you’ll never become one.
There’s also one more problem here -
On the one hand, we know that we should be setting goals. Hence, it’s normal to set goals to become rich.
On the other hand, if you set a goal like that, somewhere deep inside you know that this task is very hard to achieve.
Maybe you’ll never achieve it.
Or maybe it’ll take many years to achieve it.
And so you’re supposed to be unhappy all those years until you’re there. It’s not the situation you’d want to be in and therefore some people start to adopt defense mechanisms and say -
- “Money doesn’t buy you happiness.”
- “I don’t need to have so much money I need just enough to cover the bills and to have a happy time with my friends and family.”
If you take this kind of defensive approach, it may let you feel good for the moment. But guess what - it won’t help you get rich.
Of course, this approach prevents you from any kind of dissatisfaction because if you have no wish you can never be unhappy about not achieving it.
However, it is hard to be a high performer with this kind of attitude toward life.
So how do we deal with this conflict of interest?
The famous motivational author and speaker Jim Rohn have very well summarized it below–
With this approach, you can be grateful for what you have now and be happy every moment of your life.
At the same time, you may admire rich people and wish to become one down the road.
3 signs you will be exceptionally successful:
- You love to KISS.
- You have a good attitude towards people.
- You admire rich people and wish to become one.
